What was your vision in founding Madison & Company Properties, LTD.?

I really wanted to create an innovative workplace where there is a collaborative, not corporate, culture. I am a high-energy person and I thrive on working with like-minded, motivated people. In the 6 years since opening our doors, I really believe I’ve succeeded in creating that. I love the people that have joined the Madison team. We’re growing every day and I look forward to where we are going.

Can you describe a significant turning point in your career?

I worked at a large corporate “big box” firm from 1995 to 2007, and realized that I had outgrown that environment and wanted to create something on my own. I felt that Denver was really missing a boutique brokerage that was fast paced, could be swift and nimble and react to the changes in the market place. I interviewed with many of the top firms in Denver to see if one of these had the “right” fit and none of them did. This was ultimately why I created Madison in 2008 and haven’t looked back since.

How has technology, social media and online marketing changed and/or impacted your approach to business?

I always felt that the “big box” corporate firms had an advantage in this field and realized that many of the technologies I was using at my past firms were third party technologies, and the firm I was working  for didn’t provide anything of true value to me that I couldn’t do myself. I feel after 6 years that we are more tech-savvy at our firm than a firm that has been around for many more years.

What do you love most about working and living in Denver, CO?

I’ve lived in Denver nearly my entire life, with the exception of living in Southern California for my high school years. Most people don’t realize that Denver has over 300 annual days of sun, some of the best skiing only a drive away, and has a culture very similar to what we have at Madison… tight knit, passionate, and hard driving. Denver is absolutely a great place for entrepreneurs to not only create their own businesses, but a great place for them to thrive.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I’m a family guy and love spending time with my wife and two daughters, ages 13 and 11. In the winter, we love to ski and in the summer, I love playing golf and running. I have run 2 marathons and many half marathons and some of the best times I have is when my wife and I go on jogs together on a perfect Colorado morning. On top of this our family loves to travel… almost a little too much. From Tanzania on our honeymoon, to backpacking through Europe, to taking family European vacations, I cannot travel enough and see how other cultures both work and play on a day in and day out basis.

How do you think your colleagues would describe you?

I think they would describe me as having a positive attitude and a “glass half full” kind of guy. Most people comment on my high-energy and that I have a passion for everything I do. I’m also a pleaser… I’m constantly trying to make sure everyone is happy and content in what they are doing and it gives me so much pleasure to see others not only accomplish their goals, but exceed them.

What is your daily “must-do”?

Every morning I wake up and remember my “why.” I have two families, my home family and work family. My “why”/must-do is to give 110% of myself each and every day to provide value, passion, and happiness to each and every person that I make contact with on a day in and day out basis.
