Santa Monica Flea Markets: John Muir Elementary Flea Market Closing After 23 Years

Bad news for thrifty shoppers in Santa Monica: the John Muir Elementary Flea Market is coming to an end.

After 23 years of Saturday Markets, organizers of the elementary school flea market have decided to call it quits. The market, which has enjoyed great success throughout the years is, apparently, becoming too costly and labor intensive to sustain. Run by parents and volunteers, many believe that there are other ways to raise funds for the school, that won't take up so many man-hours and are more cost effective.

One idea for future fundraisers is a quarterly boutique. Much like the market only condensed, probably larger and four times a year.

Vendors at the market offer up antiques, vintage clothing, art work, jewelry, furniture, and more. With the last blowout having taken place this past weekend on Saturday April 6, 2013 vendors will no doubt be sad to see the market go.

Did you make it out the the John Muir Elementary Flea Market? What other flea markets do you regularly visit? What is the best item you have ever found at a flea market or garage sale? Feel free to drop us a line in the comments below.
