About The Old Fort
The Old Fort is a fully restored plantation house, once a fully working sugar plantation dating back to the Middle Ages. The villa was constructed with cobblestones and wood beams in the classic French-Mediterranean mansion-house style. The large renovated buildings have been completely rebuilt, using the same stone which was once part of the original property & form the centre of an incredible 28-acre estate.
Location
The location is an oasis of tranquillity, yet it is less than a 10-minute drive to reach the main town of Port Elizabeth, the bars & restaurants of the Belmont Walkway and the calm waters lapping onto the white sands of Princess Margaret & Lower Bay. In addition, the two neighbouring beaches, Ravine Bay and Hope Bay, are only a short hike away from the property.
Inside
Within the main building lies a large banquet style kitchen with a magnificent dining room area that turns into a magical setting at night. It includes a lounge with a fireplace and a wine bar.
Sleeping
The newly renovated villa is ideal for couples or families travelling together. Spacious, centrally located entertaining areas allow guests to gather together whilst privacy and seclusion are assured in the six uniquely styled suites that comfortably accommodate 12 guests. The primary suite is very spacious and comprises two bedrooms; the primary bedroom with a king-sized four-poster bed and the 2nd bedroom with a queen-sized bed; the spacious en-suite bathroom has a natural pebbled bathtub and a sitting room with a library. The Fantasy suite has beautiful hardwood floors throughout and high arched hardwood ceilings that are open on the top, helping to keep it cool. In addition, this Grand Suite has two balconies to relax and enjoy the stunning views overlooking the estate and the islands stretching Southward.
The Top Tower is located at the very top of the building and features breathtaking 360-degree views. The king-sized four-poster bed overlooks the magnificent views and includes a sofa for lounging and a small fridge to hold your cold beverages. The en-suite bathroom has a unique open pebbled shower. The powerful ceiling fan keeps the room cool on windless days.
The Honey suite is located in the middle of the central tower and evokes an incredibly romantic atmosphere due to its ambience and surrounding stone walls. It has a small fridge for cool drinks, a large four-poster king-sized bed, a sitting area, and an en-suite bathroom. Its main entrance is its balcony, where guests can easily access the other parts of the property. Honeymooners and couples love this room due to its relaxed, romantic feel.
Planters room has hardwood floors throughout and consists of a sitting area, a king-sized four-poster bed, an en-suite bathroom and a fridge. Planters are located on the ground level of the central tower and have dual access, one door leading to a circular stone stairway into the main living and dining area. The other leads guests through the numerous terraced gardens and patios around the property.
Petit Nevis room is located in a separate building just above the outside bar and pool area, which comprises a queen-sized bed, an en-suite bathroom, and a private balcony to enjoy the majestic views. In addition, this room benefits from the gentle cooling breezes from the Atlantic Ocean.
Little Tower room is charming and intimate, located on the second floor of the small tower, just above the ancient thick-walled wine cellar. This room has a small comfortable sitting area, a fridge and an en-suite bathroom. It comprises a single bed downstairs and a twin-sized bed in the loft. It is perfect for young couples or kids.
We are very flexible; let us know your requirements, and we would happily accommodate you. For example, if you have children or want additional beds, we would happily do so.
Outdoors
One of the many highlights is the infinity-edge pool with waterfall, shallow children's area, and several relaxation areas partly covered by two gazeboes for those seeking shade from the Caribbean sun. Have a complimentary rum punch at the poolside bar and soak in the panoramic, 180+ degree views. This vista overlooks the Grenadine islands that stretch south to the horizon & include the private island of Mustique that lies just across the water; it's truly breathtaking. On a clear day, you can see Grenada in the distance, more than 50 miles away. The property has several comfortable sitting areas, terraces, and balconies, surrounded by abundant gardens, including tropical fruit trees and local plants. So take a stroll across your private Mt. Pleasant estate, enjoying the cool breezes, encountering numerous bird species, land turtles & brightly coloured iguanas – feel at one with nature. The Old Fort has been recommended by numerous international publications over recent years, has hosted several celebrities, and is an exceptional retreat for families & friends. It can also provide a magical setting for holding special events such as weddings or yoga retreats. All in all, The Old Fort has been transformed into the kind of property you will never want to leave!
